Laundry Room Topics; Elvis' Departure

Basement Bathrooms

When 205 West End Avenue opened in about 1960 the two laundry rooms in the basement each held a bathroom for the convenience of residents and visitors.

In those days the staff was all male and the staff locker room provided a facility for their convenience.

In the intervening years several things have changed.  We have added female staff; we have added the dry cleaner in the lobby, whose staff is female.

In order to accommodate the female staff working in the building Management has locked the bathroom in the East laundry room, making it unavailable to residents.

At the same time, we have increased the usage of the basement by adding the Community Room and the Gym.

As a result, at the same time that demand for the basement bathrooms has increased, the available supply has been cut in half.

The Board has undertaken to fund the planning and construction of an extra bathroom in the basement, along with the renovation and modernization of the existing bathrooms.  Construction is underway on the extra bathroom, which should be in service within the next several weeks.

Proper Use of Laundry Equipment

It has been brought to our attention that the washing machines in the basement are becoming increasingly unreliable.

Some of this problem is caused by abuse in the form of putting dry soap into receptacles designed for liquids – bleach and fabric softener.  We ask residents and their helpers to please take care to put dry soap only in the appropriate receptacles.

Management will happily schedule training sessions for you and your household if you let them know your desire and your schedule.

Elvis’ Departure

Elvis Kelmendi has notified management that he intends to relocate to Florida in order to advance his education.  He will be leaving 205 in a couple of weeks, so please take advantage of the available time to say goodbye.  Management and the Board wish Elvis well in his future career.  Management is recruiting an appropriate successor.
